H1N1 flu and us

Well folks so far 2 members of our house have been struck down with this "swine" flu. I was sick for about 5 or 6 days last week and Friday Carson got it. He started Tamiflu immediately and it has turned around for the better in 2 days. I ran fever for 5 days he so far has only run it for 2 days. I thought I got the Tamiflu fast enough but I had a hard time getting over it. Roman is on preventive meds to hopefully keep him from getting it. Hoping Neal doesn't get it! My symptoms were: sore throat, low grade fever, tiredness and fatigue, body aches and pain, mild nasal congestion, and a cough that is still lingering. Carson's symptoms consist mainly of high fever and tiredness and body aches and pain. He did get sick at his stomach one time but that's it. We have been washing our hands like crazy and spraying Lysol. Glad we are on the mend! Hope it stays that way.

Tonight I am up due to a late nap. I had a doctor's appointment today and found out that all that dizziness I've been having is due to an inner ear inflammation. I am relieved because I kinda thought I was really losing it! The room would spin and I would feel like I was going to fall over to my left. This is the last week of our official summer. Trying to get the kids back on schedule and needing to do the same for myself! Tonight we had a pizza night (California Pizza Kitchen frozen spinach pizza to be exact) and it was yummy and just what we needed after a long day of rooms spinning :)!!! Roman likes the spinach pizza and Carson is not yet convinced which is strange because Carson will eat raw spinach in salads and loves it. Hoping for a more productive day tomorrow.

Today we got the results from Carson's bloodwork and he doesn't have the bleeding disorder they thought he had. Yay! I can't express the relief that news brings! I don't think we'll be able to do his tonsil surgery this summer though because we have now run out of time. As I type, the boys are building lego farms, cars, ships, and animals about 4 feet away from me and talking to me so I think this one will be short. Can't believe just two more weeks until school starts! I have really enjoyed our summer schedule.

So Carson didn't have his surgery yet. Turns out he didn't pass a blood screening test for von Willdebrand's disease and they sent us on to a very good hospital to get that checked out. We haven't yet heard the results should be any day. I am not the best at waiting. I want to do things when I want to do them. I want to get results right away. It is very hard for me to distract myself and just wait. I suppose it is a lesson that I haven't learned yet and that is probably why it keeps getting repeated. In other news, the whole family has bikes now and we have been going riding about three times a week at the local school. It is my first attempt at bike riding in probably 15 to 20 years. I haven't got it down perfect yet. Still moving a little slow out of fear. We are all enjoying it so much though.

I had a great week doing Vacation Bible School last week. I really enjoyed doing Missions this year! Today we had an appointment with the anesthia people for Carson's surgery coming up next week. I am very proud of the boys because they did a nice job waiting and being quiet while I talked with the nurse. This weekend we will be heading to mom's for a July fourth bash. It's always lots of fun. We go swimming and have a cookout and then shoot fireworks off in her driveway. I usually take my nephews and niece to buy fireworks even though they are plenty big enough to take themselves now (being that they are now 17-27). Guess it's just always been a tradition. Thinking of passing it off to someone else...agh who am I kidding? I like having a little control over the fireworks show. I feel like I have to pack half of what we own just to go for a weekend away though! Some storms came through last night and knocked some big limbs down in our backyard. I couldn't sleep due to the thunder and lightening. Hoping tonight will be better and more peaceful. On the agenda for tomorrow: return library books, laundry, and giving the dog a bath.

Whoo hoo today is Friday! Wishing I had vacation plans for the weekend. Next week is VBS and I am doing the Missions part and I am kinda wishing I wasn't doing the lead this year and was able to relax a little more during VBS week. Carson had a great report from the eye doc. No glasses needed! I have had a lazy day and needed to have been busier!

We just got back from our little road trip to see my mom. It was just me and the boys this time. No Neal, no dogs. I enjoyed visiting with mom. She and I enjoy watching the nightly news together. We went swimming a bunch in our short time of being there. The boys loved it! On our last day and our last swim I let them jump in with their undies only on and they thought that was the funniest thing ever. My mom really pets them a bit when it comes to snack time at night. She arranges fruit, cheese, crackers, and marshmallows on a "duck platter" for the kids each night we stay there. It has become sort of a tradition to have this bedtime snack at their "Dot's". Our next trip to see her is planned for the fourth of July. We always have a big party at her house on that day and then shoot fireworks that night. I mainly remember the extreme heat and humidity of being outside all day and evening. Plus she always makes brownies with little flags stuck in them. Tomorrow Carson has a eye doctor appointment to check out a problem he seems to be having with floaters. Hope all goes well!

Evening ramblings

So my son Carson who is 7 is going to be having his tonsils and adenoids taken out next month. He is a little nervous but looking forward to picking out a special prize for having to go through the ordeal. His younger brother told him that your tonsils are "your fun part and they help you play good." I replied "no they don't ...your dad doesn't have his tonsils to which Roman replied "and daddy doesn't play good." As I am typing this, it has started to rain and storm. The sound of the rain is making me feel pretty chilly. Like a fall night instead of a warm June one. Yes I realize that last sentence wasn't really a sentence. I ran out tonight to find another bargain book for my summer night reading that I've taken up. It was a small selection and it took me forever to settle on one. Any good book suggestions are welcome...I don't really have a certain kind that I like better than all others. I like a little variety but end up digging something with a little romance in it. I want a happy ending in the books I read. I understand that reality isn't always that way but as for my fantasy world I want a happy ending! I do my reading at night after the kids and Neal are usually in bed. Sometimes I read while he's facebooking which has become quite the obsession for the two of us.
Welcome to The Bugaboo Room! I'm Jodi and this is my first attempt at being a blogger...we'll see how it turns out. I have 2 boys...Carson and Roman and right now we are out for the summer and loving it! This is the first summer that I haven't worked in 3 years I think. However, if you know me then you know I can't stay home for even a day without getting restless. So, I signed the boys up for the summer reading program at the public library and joined the local Children's Museum to give us some scheduled activities. I myself have started my summer reading and just finished the best book about an Italian-American family in the early 1920's through the 1970's. I stayed up late one night finishing it and cried and cried. Not that it is a sad book just that I really understood the main character and well I just cried. Besides, I have a little fascination with Italy even though I have never been there before. I also have a fascination for France...and Germany...and China...and well you get the picture. I'm just very interested in other countries as well as our own.
